When you see Belgian model Hanne Gaby Odiele on the runway, you might never notice that under several layers of expertly applied makeup there are scars that are a constant reminder of how quickly life can change.
In December 2006, Odiele was crossing the street when a speeding car blew threw a red light and struck her. The model broke both her legs and several other bones in her body and was left bedridden for months. Despite facing a long, hard road of recovery, she was determined to get back on the catwalk.
"I had too much energy—I had to walk again," Odiele said.
And she did. After multiple surgeries and months of intense physical therapy, Odiele made her way back onto the runway. She walked nearly 60 shows during the spring and fall 2008 seasons, and continues to be a runway regular today.
"I’m more mature after my accident and take modeling more seriously," she said. "I know fashion can help me do great things in the future, but it’s most important to enjoy each day as it comes."

Isabel Marant’s Next Steps
“Being a woman, I understand what shoes can bring to a silhouette,” Marant said. “I have a very personal approach that is always quite feminine but also has a strong attitude. It’s a bit boyish, and that really relates to my style.”
Although the designer strives to maintain a degree of exclusivity, she also understands the importance of global expansion. On the heels of her sold-out fall ’13 apparel and accessories collaboration with H&M, Marant celebrated the opening of her first London flagship in December, bringing the worldwide tally to 14 locations in seven countries. Two additional boutiques are slated to bow next month, in Thailand and China. “We are choosing [carefully] with whom we are working, and we are trying to have very selective distribution,” the designer noted. “It’s everywhere because you need to be everywhere, but not in a too-massive way.” For More
